Sanding & Polishing

Sanding and polishing of existing or new timber floors is a large part of our business, all of our machinery is less than 5 years old and very well maintained consequently our work in this area is relatively dust free.

5 Star Floors specializes in environmentally freindly, non toxic and non yellowing water based polyurethanes. Waterbased sealers have advanced significantly in the past 3 years and are now far more hardwearing and durable than they have been in the past, far superior to tung oil and on par for hardness with solvent based polyurethane. However we do have a great deal of experience with all sealer types and can provide tung oil, solvent based single pack Poly and even 2 pack if required.

Supply and Installation.

From the light cream pink colors of Victorian Ash to the Dark reds of Jarrah, there are dozens of timber varieties to chose from.

The photo's in our online showroom give and indication of the range available. Our main suppliers of timber also have an excellent on site showroom in which a wide variety of timber sample panels can be viewed.

5 Star Floors can carry out the entire timber flooring project from assistance with choice advice on timber sellection regardging various characteristics of different timbers, such as density and moisture content. Timber Floors can be attached to any substrate with the correct preparatioin such concrete slab, Joists or over existing timber /particle board etc. 

Repairs.

Timber matching and blending is a 5 Star Floors specialty, weather it be removing an old hearth to blending in an entire extension, staggering boards into the existing floor using remilled or recycled timber of the same variety can acheive overall uniformity of the finished product.

Maintenance.

Once we finish a project for a customer we note the product used to seal the floor on the customers invoice. If kept this allows the customer to seek a timely cutback and recoat every 5 to 7 years prior to the sealer wearing through, lengthening the lifespan of the finish and avoiding the need for a complete resand.

Colored Floors

We have successfully colored many timber floors in anything from bottle green for a private customer  to a white limed mezzanine floor in the eye and ear hospital at Symonston for Nikias Property Developments. If you have an idea for a color in mind don't be afraid to ask!

Some of the coloring options include. Staining: applying stain directly to the polished timber prior to coating. Tinting: Adding tint to a coat of solvent based polyurethane during the coating process. Liming: applying premixed liming white directly to the timber prior to coating.

Cleaning

Most professional cleaners will advise to use a wax based which adds a "sacrificial" coating to the finish. Using these wax based products on a timber floor means you are then unable to apply a recoat leaving a complete resand as the only option once the floor starts to discolor from the layers of wax. We don't recommend the use of these wax based products on timber floors. 5 Star Floors can advise on effective cleaning methods during consultation.
